Tendai Dembo launches 3rd album

Barura Express heir Tendai Dembo has commemorated his late father 23rd anniversary in style after releasing an album dedicated to him.

Dembo died on April 9, 1996 aged 37.

And ever since his death, Dembo’s life is commemorated in April although it is very difficult for Tendai to fill in his father’s shoes.

Tendai showed his affection for the departed dad after releasing a six-track album titled Dzinde before a low profile crowd at Club East Point last Friday.

However, the Barura Express frontman could have done better by marketing the event which also coincided with the late songwriter Leonard Tazvivinga Dembo born Kwangwari Gwaindepi’s commemorations.

Though he only performed a few songs from the album and dedicated the evening to his father’s 23rd anniversary, his fans say he has recorded a good album.

And for Tendai, he has always wanted everyone left behind by his late father to unite.

“This has been a perfect moment having every member of the family around and seeing the fans enjoying my new music.

“It was humbling to launch my album before my fans. I appreciate the support from everyone who came through,” Tendai told H-Metro.

The musician said the evening turned out perfectly as he had planned it.

“I had promised not to make the night about me but my late father who started this brand, it went well, this was all about him.

“As we commemorate 23 years of my father’s death, I dedicate this album to all his efforts in building this legacy that we all benefit from today.

“This is for all his staunch followers as we unite as a family to further his dream,” he said.

Tendai described the album as a complete album which he went on an extra mile.

“Dzinde translate to a plant rooted into something and in my context in my fans, through this album I have been able to express myself.

“I have gone an extra mile on this project but Kupakwashe remains my best album because it was an emotional piece,” he said.

Songs on the album include Sorry Dhiya, Chemedzai, Rufu, Changu, Asi Chii Nhai and Mupi Wemazano.
