Gospel musician Reverend Togarepi Chivaviro and wife Juliet’s latest releases are ruling the roost on the Coca-Cola Radio Zimbabwe Top 20 chart show.
Barely a month after launching their albums Excellent and Perseverance respectively, the couple seem to have done their homework in getting numbers voting for their songs Hamupererwi and Perseverance.
Chivaviro’s Hamupererwi polled 7457 votes whilst his wife’s Perseverance followed on number two with 7400 votes.
Both songs were favourites ahead of Jah Prayzah’s Dangerous (603 votes) which only managed seventh position and Enzo Ishall’s Magate (477) on ninth.
Closer to Mai Chivaviro’s song was Lucky Kumene’s Ngoda yaMwari (3943), Ammara Brown’s Svoto on fourth with 1194 votes.
Baba Harare’s Ramba Wakadzvanya completed the top 10 garnering 324 votes.
Speaking to H-Metro, Chivaviro shared his elation.
“I didn’t see this coming but I want to thank all our fans for voting us into one of Zimbabwean’s biggest chart show,” he said.
Chivaviro had his songs (Matishamisa 1st and Hande Tinovaka 4th) on last year top 50 songs.
The South Africa based singer also broke the competition’s record by garnering 432 321 votes on one song. Famed for his Ebenezer hit, the musician remains optimistic of scoring a double.
“It might be too early to speak of having another song contending for the song of the year spot.
“There are other musicians who are doing well out there but if my fans chose to continue with what they did for me last year then I will be glad,” he said.
For Chivaviro’s wife-Juliet-this is a step in the right direction.
“I have been humbled and I feel like I have hit the right chords with my first album.
“This can never be achieved without the support from our fans and I owe them this one,” she said.
The duo is also set to host series of shows around the country thanking their multitudes of fans for continuously voting for their music. H-Metro
