Sono invites Bosso to tourney

Legendary South African footballer and businessman Jomo Sono has invited Bulawayo giants Highlanders to a four team anti-Xenophobia Cup that will also feature his side Jomo Cosmos at the Vosloorus Stadium in East Rand on August 6.
The other two teams will be Mbabane Swallows from Swaziland and Simunye Diaspora, a non-professional team of South African-based foreign nationals.
“We felt maybe we can help the foreigners and South Africans to unite by hosting a football tournament on their behalf.
“The foreigners are our brothers and sisters,” the legendary Sono is qouted as saying by the South African Broadcasting Corporation.
In an interview with Chronicle Sport yesterday, Sono said they had talks with Highlanders representatives in South Africa who also bought the idea of using football to bring peace on the continent.
“We spoke to their representative here in South Africa but they have not yet come back to us. This tournament is for a good cause and Jomo Cosmos is playing its part in putting an end to the attacks on foreign nationals, we are saying no to Xenophobia in South Africa,” said Sono.
Highlanders chief executive officer Nhlanhla Dube said they are seized with the issue but are yet to commit themselves due to a tight fixtures schedule.
“We are fully in support of partnering with others on issues of societal importance and using football to promote international peace. We are however unable at this moment in time to commit ourselves due to a tight fixtures programme but if we manage to squeeze time we will participate,” said Dube.
Besides the league matches and scheduled local cup games which are set to start anytime, the Bulawayo giants are also set to take part in another international tournament in Botswana which will feature Dynamos, Tafic and Mochudi Centre Chiefs on August 19.
The Bulawayo giants have also been invited by the army for the Zimbabwe Defence Forces Cup which will be played against an army select side on the Zimbabwe Defence Forces day on August 14. The Chronicle
