Selmor dreams of Tuku collabo

She has shared the mic with the world- renowned Bono and exchanged notes in the studio with stars like Yemi Alade and Judith Sephuma but songbird Selmor Mtukudzi is still living in hope that local audiences will one day see her share the stage again with her famous father, Oliver ‘Tuku’ Mtukudzi.

The relationship between the two has been rocky at best, although indications earlier in the year were that things were now on the mend between Tuku and his two daughters from his first marriage, Selmor and Sandra.

In a short exchange on social media with a blogger Larry Kwirirayi, Selmor revealed that she hoped that one day fans would see her share the stage with her father and one of Africa’s most respected musicians.

“That Selmor Mtukudzi has gone international and we can’t see a gig with her dad, is just plain sad,” said Kwirirayi.

Selmor was concise in her reply saying, “I pray it will happen someday.”

Earlier in the year, Tuku’s manager Sam Mataure had told the media that he was working on mending the relationship between him and his daughters.

“Tuku is getting along with his daughters as evidenced by the recent Johannesburg concert where he shared the stage with Selmor and the Manatsas.

“It is work in progress, the pending concert featuring the Manatsas here in Zimbabwe at a yet-to-be-announced date and venue is also meant to strengthen the relationship between the two parties,” Mataure said.

The concert with the Manatsas is yet to happen, leaving some to speculate that the bad blood between the two has not entirely gone away.

Things turned sour between Selmor and her father in 2012 after a spectacular tirade in which she said that her father did not support her career. B-Metro
