Zanu PF has postponed today’s crunch politburo meeting due to President Robert Mugabe’s commitments with the visiting King of Lesotho.

The party’s spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo confirmed the postponement yesterday but said he was not sure when it would be held.

“I have been told that the politburo will no longer meet tomorrow (today) because the president is still entertaining our visitor.

“It is entirely up to the president. He can call for the meeting anytime but the reason for the postponement is that the visitor still has some programmes here,” Khaya Moyo told the Daily News last night.

Mugabe is hosting King Letsie III of Lesotho who is in Zimbabwe on an official four-day State visit.

Sparks were expected to fly at the postponed meeting where Mugabe was expected to decide on the future of embattled Zanu PF national political commissar Saviour Kasukuwere who is under pressure from irate party supporters to quit his influential post.

Kasukuwere has been fighting to save his political career over the past few weeks, with angry Zanu PF supporters pushing for his ouster from both his party and government positions, over a raft of charges which include allegedly plotting to topple Mugabe from power.

Also under fire has been his brother Dickson Mafios, who is the acting Zanu PF chairperson for Mashonaland Central.

Apart from having to deal with Kasukuwere’s saga, sources said Mugabe and his colleagues were also expected to deal with the contested results of the Masvingo provincial chairmanship election, which was comprehensively won by an alleged Team Lacoste candidate, Ezra Chadzamira — who walloped Mutero Masanganise who had pulled out from the mini internal poll days before polling, citing a number of irregularities.
