The alleged abduction of Wimbo proves Zanu PF’s desperation of staying in power as the prophet has in the past prophesied accurate events about the country.

Madzibaba Wimbo who allegedly prophesied 60 years ago that Zimbabwe would be ruled by a man with the name of angel Gabriel has been caught up in Zanu PF succession politics as warring factions battle to keep him in check.

Wimbo’s prophecy came true in 1980 when President Robert Mugabe whose middle name in Gabriel was elected into power, making him a voice in modern Zimbabwean politics.

The controversial prophet who is the leader of Johane Masowe , Vadzidzi vaJesu  Church has been under army watch since his ‘abduction’ last year.

The recent development comes after Mugabe’s top security chiefs including police commissioner general Augustine Chihuri and army chief of staff Major General Douglas Nyikayaramba are said to be locked in a vicious battle to control the enigmatic prophet.

“Its not surprising to see that there is a military base just a few hundred metres from vaWimbo’s homestead and there are military personnel in the shrine, purportedly to guard him. “From who, we don’t know,” said Exnevia Gomo, Wimbo’s son.

Gomo said his father was suffering because of his ability to spiritually interpret what is happening on the political front.

He said Zanu PF had taken Wimbo’s ability to spiritually discern what is happening on the political landscape out of context, using it to fight endless factional fights.

“It is true that va Wimbo has great hearing on the political landscape in the country. This hearing and the ability to see the future was taken out context by the four with deliberate intention to over politicize the church for the furtherance of their political ambitions and cover their corrupt activities,” said Gomo.

The brawling factions are fighting each other viciously over the aged prophet, hoping that he will have a decisive influence over the ruling party’s toxic succession saga.

Wimbo’s family says soldiers guarding the shrine had completely denied access to his family.

In July this year, Mugabe went to the extent of meeting the prophet’s family in Bindura and his security chiefs in a bid to get to the bottom of and to resolve the long running abduction saga.

This was after the nonagenarian set up a ministerial task force to facilitate Wimbo’s return home, but the 94 year old is still under army watch.

“Equally the five member ministerial task force set up to ensure his return home and so far it has not been able to do anything. One wonders whether there is a hidden element, defying the president. Surely this is not about religion anymore,” said Gomo. Nehanda Radio
