Police are investigating a case of sodomy at Jairos Jiri Association’s centre in Masvingo after a security guard allegedly endured three years of abuse at the hands of the branch’s manager.

police-investigationThe manager, who was not named, later fired the guard after he resisted his continued advances. National police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi said the matter was under investigation.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police are investigating a case of aggravated indecent assault which occurred at Masvingo Jairos Jiri from March 2013 to 2016. Circumstances are that the victim was employed at the Association as a security guard,” said Chief Supt Nyathi.

“During the aforesaid period, the accused would invite the victim to his office where he would force him to have anal sex.”

Chief Supt Nyathi said the manager would allegedly threaten his victim with termination of contract if he refused.

“However, in May 2016 the victim challenged the advances of the accused and was subsequently dismissed from work. He then made a police report on the abuse,” said Chief Supt Nyathi.

He said police are urging members of the public to report cases of abuse to the police early while those bestowed with authority at work- places should lead by example.

“The law will certainly take its course on perpetrators of sexual violence,” said Chief Supt Nyathi. The Chronicle
