The Zimbabwe Musicians Union (ZIMU) will on Friday host the second session of the Entertainment Law Clinics held at the Music Crossroads Academy in Belgravia, Harare.
To address the guests will be Gwinyai Mharapara, a lawyer, together with top Zimbabwean music producer, Clive Mono Mukundu.
“The first session was held in July and is a ZIMU initiative where the entertainment industry practitioners gain more information on this beat through the highly interactive sessions,” said the ZIMU chairperson and musician, Edith Katiji, popularly known as Edith weUtonga.
This session will enlighten musicians and other stakeholders on topics such as marketing and distribution contracts as well as studio contracts.
Edith said the clinics that would be held one every month would be mainly targeting all musicians as well as instrumentalists.
“We are doing this with the hope that our musicians will be better equipped to make wise decisions before signing any contracts,” she told Nehanda Radio.
Such events will favour Zimbabwean musicians with basic knowledge and know when it comes to making any contractual decisions or agreements.
These monthly clinics could help in making artistes aware and also treat their musical careers as proper professions where every transaction is done under proper knowledge and professionalism.
Some of the musicians in the country have since adapted to professional ways of handling their career although there are some that still need to be equipped with relevant knowledge so they can also join in the current international music trends and standards of handling their careers as professional businesses.
