Dynamos coach Lloyd Mutasa admitted his side was out of the title race after Sunday’s goalless draw away to Ngezi Platinum Stars at the Baobab Stadium.
Both teams spurned a number of good chances, with the hosts striking the woodwork in the first period while their goalkeeper Chris Mverechena made several impressive stops at the other end to ensure a share of spoils.
However, a goalless draw saw the Glamour Boys drop to fifth place on the log table trailing Catsle Lager Premiership log leaders FC Platinum by 11 points with nine matches left before the season comes to an end.
Mutasa admitted it is now a mammoth task to try and play catch-up with the platinum miners.
“We came here looking for three points and we had some chances but we could not score,” Mutasa said after the match.
“If you don’t score, you don’t win matches and it disappoints. About the title, like I have always said that it’s no longer in our hands. We will however, have to keep on working hard and see where we can finish at the end of the season.”
Ngezi Platinum started the better of the two teams and went close to breaking the deadlock after 16 minutes when James Nguluve caught the Dynamos defence off-guard before sending his shot from outside the box just wide.
Defender Talent Chamboko saw his effort from a free kick just outside the box crashing against the cross bar on 33 minutes as the home side pushed for an opener.
Despite their continued dominance, Ngezi failed to fashion much in terms of clear-cut openings.
The Glamour Boys however, picked themselves towards the end of the first half with Takunda Sadiki wasting a couple of good scoring opportunities to beat Mverechena.
The hosts threatened soon after the break as Nguluve found space to shoot from just inside the box, but he was denied by impressive DeMbare goalkeeper Tatenda Mkuruva.
The visitors were more purposeful after the break, however, and could have gone in front just after the hour mark when Denver Mukamba turned Ngezi defenders Partson Jaure and Edgar Tapera inside the box but his shot hit the side netting.
Moments later, Mukamba again won a free kick just on the edge of the box after being bought down by desperate Jaure but Wisdom Mutasa blasted his effort against the wall.
Both teams went on to create some good scoring chances but in the end they had to settle for a draw.
Ngezi Platinum coach Tonderai Ndiraya was happy with the point after ending a two-game losing streak against How Mine and Border Strikers.
“I am happy with the overall performance of my team. Before the game, I told my boys that we are playing not to lose,” Ndiraya said. Daily News
