The charges include insubordination emanating from unauthorised absence from work and date back to last year.

Board chairman, Gibson Munyoro, confirmed that Chivinge faced disciplinary charges.

“There are clear written charges against him (Chivinge) and hearing processes are being done according to procedure. Some of the issues against him date back to the time even before the arrests, some even dating back to last year,” Munyoro said.

Chivinge’s problems have been linked to internal infighting revolving around alleged corruption in the procurement of vehicles by the State broadcaster.

Insiders were quoted by local media claiming that ZBC management were victimising Chivinge over the recent arrest of acting chief executive, Patrick Mavhura, and interim finance and administration boss, Benania Shumba.

The two were arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) for unprocedurally procuring 35 vehicles.

They are being accused of ignoring a cabinet directive to buy from a particular supplier.

Information permanent secretary, George Charamba, was reportedly involved in the purchase and quickly rapped ZACC for “acting like a rattlesnake”.

Chivinge has for a long time been seen as a blue-eyed boy of Jonathan Moyo, the former Information minister who recently revealed that he had a frosty relationship with Charamba.

ZBC has already fired several senior managers various charges.

These include head of television programming Josephine Zulu, and head of engineering, Samuel Magonde.

A procurement official, one Tsatsi, who reportedly warned Mavhura against buying unsanctioned vehicles was first demoted and reassigned to Gweru before being fired. Nehanda Radio
