The lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday accuses Brown and nightclub 1 Oak of failing to provide adequate security.

Knight was shot seven times while attending a party at the club that was hosted by Brown.

His lawsuit claims the nightclub should have taken special security precautions due to a history of violence at events hosted by the singer.

It accuses Brown of having gang ties and a “well-documented track record of hosting events and/or parties in which violence frequently erupted”.

The lawsuit adds: “As a result of the negligence of the defendants, one or more unknown individuals were allowed access to the event with weapons, including firearms.”

Knight, who is in jail awaiting trial for murder, is seeking a judgement ordering Brown and the owners of 1 Oak to pay past and future medical expenses for his injuries.

Brown’s representatives have not commented on the lawsuit.

The oft-troubled R&B singer has not been implicated in the shooting and no arrests have been made.

Attorneys for Knight have claimed the shooting led him to flee when he was attacked in his car last year, running down two men and killing one.

Knight has regularly cited complications from injuries suffered in the 2014 shooting, including a blood clot, throughout pre-trial hearings in the unrelated murder case.

The Death Row Records co-founder was also shot and wounded at a 2005 party hosted by Kanye West in Miami Beach.

He sued the rapper over what he claimed was lax security, but a judge ruled in West’s favour.

Knight faces a mandatory sentence of 25 years to life in prison if he is convicted in the hit-and-run murder case. Sky News
