The illegal bus stop has become a menace to pedestrians, motorists and residents along the stretch of road between Herbert Chitepo and Josiah Tongogara avenues.

The tout, whose name could not be established by the time of going to print, was in his early 20s. When we visited the scene, police were yet to collect his body.

According to eyewitnesses, the tout disembarked from a moving C.A.G Traveller bus as it was turning into Second Street from Herbert Chitepo Avenue.

“The tout and his two colleagues jumped into the bus after it was stopped by the traffic lights at corner Herbert Chitepo and Second Street.

“I would like to believe they were asked to disembark from the bus as the driver did not intend to pick up passengers at the illegal pick up point,” said an eyewitness.

“The other two men disembarked as the bus was still waiting for the robot to turn green and as the now deceased disembarked from the moving bus, he fell and was crushed.”

The incident comes three weeks after a Harare Girls High Form Four pupil was killed by a commuter omnibus at an illegal pick up along Leopold Takawira Street. The Herald
