Nhari declared liberation war heroine

Former Zanu-PF Women’s League secretary for administration, Esphina Nhari who died in a road traffic accident along the Bulawayo-Harare highway near Kadoma on Friday has been declared a liberation war heroine.

Nhari, 62, died when a Mazda BT50 she was driving collided head on with a BMW near Kadoma at around 9PM on her way to Harare from Kwekwe.

Zanu-PF Midlands spokesperson Cornelius Mpereri said Nhari will be buried at the Midlands Provincial Heroes’ Acre in Gweru today.

“Cde Esphina Nhari who died in an accident on Friday last week has been declared provincial hero. She’ll be buried at the Midlands Provincial Heroes’ Acre in Gweru tomorrow (today),” he said.

Nhari was on her way to the University of Zimbabwe where she was studying part time.

She was rushed to Kadoma General Hospital following the accident, but died while she was being attended to.

Mpereri said Nhari was a long serving member of Zanu-PF and a war veteran who was trained in Zambia under Zipra.

Nhari held several positions both in Zapu and Zanu-PF up to the level of national secretary for administration in the Women’s League.

Early this year, she suffered a vote of no confidence after chanting the slogan “Down with G40” in Gutu during First Lady Grace Mugabe’s meet the people rally.

Nhari is survived by four children and seven grandchildren.
