Zanu PF is “repossessing” motor vehicles it gave to its candidates ahead of the controversial 2013 parliamentary election — with only those who won entitled to keep them, the Daily News has learnt.

In a letter addressed to Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa, one of the losing candidates who asked not to be identified, said the campaign vehicle has since been taken by the authorities.

“On the 10th of September 2015, I was summoned to bring the above vehicle (Ford Ranger) for inspection…which I did. I was advised the car was needed for inspection since it had not been inspected since July 27, 2013 when it had been allocated to me by His Excellency the president (Robert Mugabe) as I was the Zanu PF candidate during the July 2013 election.

“I did as instructed and up to now Your Excellency I do not know the whereabouts of this car,” reads one of the letters.

The losing MP said he has not been given any information, which proves that the car has been re-allocated.

“I have always been a loyal Zanu PF member and had never used the car against the party and its leadership,” he said.

Another losing candidate who also refused to be named for fear of victimisation said despite having used his money to campaign for both Zanu PF and Mugabe he has now lost the vehicle.

“Zanu PF director of administration Dickson Dzora is the one who is sending people to take our cars, we confronted him but he only told us that the party needs the cars back,” he said.

“I sold my car campaigning for the president; the party did not give me anything for the campaign. We were happy that the party gave us the cars which we were supposed to pay for in a period of three years; however, they are now taking back the cars in unclear circumstances.

“I feel used by Zanu PF, although I lost the elections but I campaigned for president Mugabe and he won in my constituency.”

Contacted for comment Zanu PF director of administration Dzora demanded to know the identity of the losing candidates.

“This issue must be discussed internally by the party, why are those people rushing to the media?

“Give me the names of people who told you that story so that I can know who they are,” Dzora said. Daily News
