Shower Power is back with 9th album

By Peter Tanyanyiwa

Shower Power, a gospel acapella group, dropped its ninth album, “Latter Rain” last weekend. The group resurfaces after three years of silence, since its 2012 album “The Journey.”

Latter Rain is the rain which comes just before harvest to signal the ripening of the crop.

Shower Power used the title to signify the Holy Spirit’s preparation of the believers just before the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.

Shower Power hails from the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) which has rich choral tradition, and has spawned such groups as the US-based Grammy-winning group, Take 6.

Given such a background, Shower Power members think their convening for musical ministry was inevitable.

Shower Power released its eight track album at a launch concert hosted by the 7-Arts Theatre.

It was a no instruments affair — just great voices, soprano, baritone, and tenors.

The group front man Mandikudze Sithole in a statement said they took time to release because they had taken the back seat to allow God to lead them.

“All this time we were silent the group was busy praying for the Lord to inspire our music.

‘‘We were waiting for a message from the Lord, a message that would make a difference in people’s lives,” said Sithole.

The album will be available online through iTunes, and SDA bookshops.

Since its launch in 1992, Shower Power has changed its group member setup eight times with the music growing better with each album.

The group has toured the world and won the 2014 Contemporary Acapella Recording Award (CARA) for Best African Acapella Group. The Herald
