HARARE – Zimbabweans should expect an electrifying performance from Morgan Heritage next month when they perform for the first time in Harare according to group member Mr Mojo.

The Jamaican arrived in Harare on Sunday night and has been using his stay in the country to work with local promoters — Devine Assignments and Proma Events — on the finer details of the show to be held at an indoor venue since December is a rainy month.

But the Daily News understands the show is likely to be held at either the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) or City Sports Centre at the end of the year.

For many years local reggae lovers have been asking for the group to tour here and that dream will become a reality next month.

“The new album Strictly Roots; we are launching it now, we released it on our own label Cool To Be Conscious (CTBC) Music Group,” Mr Mojo, whose real name is Memmalatel Morgan, told the Daily News yesterday.

“We are just here to share it with the people of Zimbabwe in anticipation of our concert that we will be doing in December here in Harare.

“It’s very good news for Zimbabweans and it won’t be the last but it’s going to be a small show because of the rainy season.

“It’s gonna be an indoor show and not the large shows you would expect us to perform when we are in Africa.

“But we are looking forward to our first indoor concert in Africa; we have never had one so it’s gonna be interesting both for us and our fans.”

The group popularly known as the Royal Family of Reggae, is made up of veteran reggae singer Delroy Morgan’s five children; Peter “Peetah” Morgan, Una Morgan, Roy “Gramps” Morgan, Nakhamyah “Lukes” Morgan and Mr Mojo.

Morgan Heritage has been churning hit songs since their formation in New York in 1994 and Mr Mojo said they will leave Zimbabweans asking for more.

“You can expect all your favourite hit records you have been waiting to hear for the last 15 years starting with Don’t Haffi Dread, Down By The River, Liberation, Tell Me How Come, Nothing To Smile About; the list goes on and on,” he said.

“Of course we will be presenting the new album Strictly Roots and our nephew Jemere Morgan will be there as well. It’s gonna be another big show.” Daily News
