FORMER Highlanders’ shot stopper and skipper Tapuwa Kapini has declared that Bosso will not be relegated now and in future, and has challenged the players to prove that they deserve to play for the Bulawayo giants.
Campos, as Kapini was fondly referred to during his days at Bosso, also challenged the executive to put aside personal egos and to be humble enough to consult previous executive members for the club to extricate itself from its present quagmire.
Highlanders take on relegation threatened Flame Lily at Barbourfields Stadium this afternoon needing nothing short of victory to move away from the deep end.
Speaking to Chronicle Sport from his South African base yesterday afternoon, the former Bosso favourite said the players must keep their heads high and stick to the coaches’ instructions.
“No, Highlanders will not go down. It’s a giant that unfortunately seems to have been led into a thick jungle, but will retrace its steps (out of danger). The players just need to believe in themselves and set a target of a top eight finish. That’s possible because if they can’t believe in themselves, who then will believe in them?” said Kapini.
He said blaming each other now and again after a defeat will not help their cause “because at the end of the day, it won’t be Ariel (Sibanda) or Knox (Mutizwa), but it will be Highlanders who would have lost and not individuals”.
“During our time, we never lost hope even if the opposition scored first in the first half. We knew that come second half, we would definitely score more than one goal and we did just that,” said Kapini.
The former AmaZulu and Platinum (of South Africa) goalminder attributed the team’s unfamilar position on the table to bad decisions by the executive.
“They might change coaches as they please, but at the end of the day, it’s them who must shoulder the blame. Their first mistake was letting go of Kelvin Kaindu and SamaNdloe (Bekithemba Ndlovu).
“The world over, big teams always keep their sons because they know the history and culture of the club, but these guys never did that.
“If they no longer wanted SamaNdloe, they should have brought in people like Dazzy (Kapenya), Gift (Lunga Jnr), among a number of former players, but it looks like they wanted to show who the boss is,” said Kapini.
He said former players know and understand what a loss means to the supporters.
“You know, some of us are now even afraid to comment about Highlanders on social media because we will become a laughing stock. Those in office must swallow their pride and consult previous executive members,” he said. The Chronicle
