Former Zimbabwe senior national team goalkeeper Tapuwa Kapini has backed the Prophetic Healing Ministries (PHD) and Yadah FC owner prophet Walter Magaya to become the next Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) president.
The ex-Highlanders FC’s shot stopper believes Magaya has the pedigree of ‘transforming’ ZIFA into a ‘properly run’ football institution due to his passion and love for the most followed sport.
His sentiments come on the back of the PHD Ministries leader being in the football corridors for over a decade, first running Gunners FC and now Yadah FC and Academy.
Furthermore, Magaya’s move to build The Heart Stadium at his hotel in Waterfalls for his team Yadah FC, further convinces Kapini he is the right man for the ZIFA top post.
The former Highlands Park goalkeeper told ZimPapers Sport:
“We can say whatever we want about Prophet Magaya but we can never take away the passion he has for football and his love for the game is there for everyone to see with all the million-dollar investments he has made.
“I will be let down if Magaya doesn’t make the coming ZIFA elections because Zimbabwean football needs someone like him.
“I think he is someone who might get big brands to sponsor the PSL. We need fresh ideas in our football.
“He has been running a top-flight team, he knows what the players want, which I think is the most neglected area, PSL. teams need to be supported with grants.”
However Magaya is yet to publicly declare his interest to vie for the ZIFA presidency although his name has been rumoured to be one of the candidates who are eying the top post.
Other potential candidates include Charles Mabika, Marshall Gore, Alois Bunjira, Brighton Ushendibaba and Twine Phiri.
