Former advisor to ex-Reserve Bank Governor Dr Gideon Gono and Bikita West House of Assembly member, Dr Munyaradzi Kereke, has agreed to pay US$2 000 monthly maintenance and other lavish perks to a Great Zimbabwe University student who sired a child with the legislator in February 2011.

Dr Kereke also undertook to provide a Toyota Rav 4 vehicle to Maudy Machangwa, a Marketing student at Great Zimbabwe University.

He will also pay school fees for the student’s two children who are at pre-school.

In a consent order filed at the Masvingo Civil Court that was signed by provincial magistrate Mrs Dorothy Mwanyisa last Friday, Dr Kereke promised to start paying maintenance to Machangwa with effect from this month.

Machangwa dragged Dr Kereke to court in December last year alleging that he was neglecting a child they sired four years ago following a long-running love affair.

In her application for maintenance Machangwa, who stays in the plush Rhodene suburb in Masvingo, demanded US$1 950 monthly from Dr Kereke for her personal upkeep and her two children.

Machangwa submitted that Dr Kereke could afford to pay the money because he was a reputable businessman with interests in various enterprises dotted around the country.

She further submitted that Dr Kereke was a Member of Parliament and could afford to pay her what she wanted.

“The respondent has been neglecting his child who was born on 1 February 2011 and is now at pre-school,’’read part of the application by Machangwa.

On top of paying Machangwa US$2 000 monthly, Dr Kereke offered a vehicle to transport her two children to school.

The vehicle would automatically be owned by Machangwa upon delivery.

Dr Kereke also agreed to pay schools fees for the two children.

In her application Machangwa demanded US$300 for uniforms and toys, US$500 for rentals, US$500 for school fees, US$150 for medical cover, US$300 for food and US$200 for motor vehicle service and fuel.

The Zanu-PF Masvingo provincial leadership recently recommended that Dr Kereke be re-admitted into the ruling party after he was fired for insubordination in the run-up to the 2013 harmonised elections.

The Politburo is yet to officially confirm Dr Kereke’s re-admission into the party. The Herald
