Accident along Chivake River Bridge near Murehwa (Citizen Pictures)

This accident took place on the night of 19 November 2014 at Chivake River Bridge along the recently opened detour(dust road) between 44 and Murehwa when the truck driver apparently lost control of his heavy vehicle on approaching the bridge.

The driver was fortunately not killed.

This road was opened to allow repair work to be carried out at the major Chivake Bridge between Harare and Murehwa.

The bridge was damaged by a fallen granite slab from a haulage truck about three months or so back.

Now there is a regulation stipulating that all heavy vehicles should use the Murehwa – Headlands stretch of dust road instead of the Murehwa – 44 detour (has bridges which are too narrow) which is largely being ignored by the truckers.

Nothing is being done to enforce the above mentioned regulation.
