Over 19 million of drugs seized at OR Tambo

Drugs with an estimated street value of R19.5 million were seized at OR Tambo international airport in Johannesburg on Friday, the SA Revenue Service said.

The drugs were concealed in hair-piece packages from Nigeria, spokeswoman Marika Muller said in a statement. “Those packages contained crystal methamphetamine (‘tik’) weighing a total of 65kg, with a value of R19.5 million.

“This is one of the biggest ever seizures of crystal methamphetamine at OR Tambo,” Muller said.

The drugs were handed over to the police. – Sapa
