Prison officer steals 750ml bottle of brandy

A Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) officer stationed in Mutoko received a thorough beating from members of the public after he was arrested for stealing a 750ml bottle of Chateau Brandy from TM Supermarket.

The correctional officer, who is commonly known as “Dhongi” and  employed in the millitary section responsible for instilling  discipline in the para-millitary organisation, received a few beatings from the mob when they saw him handcuffed for shoplifting.

He pleaded not to be sent to the police but to his superiors at Mutoko Prison where he said his case can be treated amicably without losing his job.

This is not the first time a correctional officer from Mutoko Prison has been arrested for shoplifting.

A couple of years ago, another correctional officer was caught red-handed for stealing a 750ml John Walker Whisky bottle at a Lodge in Mutoko. He was later dismissed from service on a different offence.
