Six Mapostori arrested after Budiriro riot

Six Johanne Masowe Apostolic Sect church members have been arrested and are in detention at Budiriro Police Station after they went on a rampage assaulting anti-riot police officers on Friday.

Several police officers were seriously injured in the brawl that took place in the high-density suburb of Budiriro 2 in Harare.

Apostolic Christian Council of Zimbabwe president Johannes Ndanga, in the company of anti-riot police, had gone to the Madzibaba Ishmael-led shrine seeking to enforce a ban on the church for alleged abuse of women and children.

As if possessed, the members attacked the police, ACCZ members and journalists and seriously injured ZBC cameraman Relax Mafurutu. The few police details who were there were overpowered and some details were also seriously injured.

The injured police officers were rushed to hospital to receive treatment for various injuries. Police details later regrouped and began to hunt down members of the sect.
