He said last Friday night, a 60-year-old man and his wife lost US$5000 cash to four armed robbers who blocked their vehicle at the gate to their house in Borrowdale at around 9.30pm.

“After arriving at the gate, the couple saw a white Honda CRV without registration number plates parking from behind,” he said.

Chief Supt Nyathi said four armed robbers who were armed with iron bars disembarked from the vehicle and smashed the couple’s windows.

The man then wrestled with armed robbers who were trying to forcibly grab a handbag from his wife.

“The robbers got away with the cash and two cellphones and a report was made to the police,” Chief Supt Nyathi said.

In a related incident, four armed robbers got away with US$260 cash, gold and diamond rings worth US$15 000 after raiding another house in Borrowdale.

The robbers gained entry through an unlocked door and confronted the wife of the owner of the house.

The owner who was bathing when the incident occurred was also dragged into the bedroom and they all had their hands and legs tied.

Chief Supt Nyathi said the robbers demanded cash and got away with US$260 and the rings and jewelry.

He urged people to desist from keeping large amounts of money in their homes. He said people should bank their cash as they were likely to fall prey to criminals.

Chief Supt Nyathi urged the public to ensure that they put adequate security measures at their homes and to ensure that they lock all the doors during the night.

Meanwhile armed robbers raided a company in Ruwa last Sunday night and got away with 1 770kg of matemba.

The robbers attacked and tied a security guard who was manning the premises with a rope.

They also got away with the security guard’s cellphone. No arrests have since been made and police are still investigating all the cases. The Herald
