The father, who allegedly committed the crime over a period of two years, was arraigned before Rusape regional magistrate Mr Livingstone Chipadza and was not asked to plead.

Mr Chipadza postponed the matter March 13 2014 for trial.

Prosecutor Mr James Wirima told the court that the offences only came to light after the young girls fell pregnant and a medical report indicated that it is no longer possible to terminate the pregnancies.

Mr Wirima further told the court that the father, besides using death threats, also told his daughters that by having sex with him they will pass exams and get married.

“On an unknown date but during the year 2011 the accused and the complainant (16) were alone at home. The accused person told the complainant that he wanted to have sexual intercourse with her so that she can get married, but she refused.

“The father fondled the breasts of the complainant and proceeded to rape her. She cried out, but no one heard her. The accused threatened to beat the complainant if she told anyone.

“As from the year 2011 the father forced himself on the complainant several times during the absence of her mother until August 2013 when she got pregnant. The complainant did not tell anyone until she noticed she was pregnant. A police report was made on February 17, 2014.

“On the 14-year-old daughter, Mr Wirima told the court that the father threatened to kill her if she divulged the alleged offence.

“On an unknown date but during the month of October 2013 the father and the 14-year-old daughter were alone at home. The accused person ordered the complainant to put her clothes in order in the spare bedroom while he was seated at the veranda. The complainant got into the spare bedroom and the father followed her.

“While in the room, the father told the complainant that he wanted to have a sexual intercourse with her so that she will pass her grade seven examinations but she refused and he proceeded to rape her.

“The complainant screamed for help but no one came to her rescue. The accused threatened to kill the complainant if she tells anyone. As from October 2013 the accused person forcibly had sexual intercourse with complainant several times during the absence of her mother.

A report was made to the police on February 17, 2014, leading to the arrest of the father. Manica Post
