Prophet Magaya bodyguards beat up Marondera man

A Marondera resident is claiming that he was assaulted by three bodyguards who were part of motorcade accompanying Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries leader Prophet Walter Magaya last Tuesday.

Walter Mafuta, of Yellow City Township, claims he was assaulted by Magaya’s bodyguards at Mbuya Nehanda Hall, after they accused him of failing to respect the ‘Prophets’ motorcade as it passed by.

“After work I discovered that my car had been blocked by the church members’ cars and I could not drive off the parking bay and so I decided to go and have a beer while I waited for the church members to disperse,” Mafuta said.

“At around 8pm, I then decided to go and check if my car was now free to move away after having seen on a big screen that some people were giving a vote of thanks, signalling the end of the church service.”

“As I crossed the road, one guy approached and elbowed me querying why I had kept walking as ‘Magaya’s motorcade’ was passing by. When I challenged him not to attack me he then called four other men and all of them started attacking me indiscriminately ordering me to respect Magaya’s ‘motorcade’,” Mafuta claimed.

“I was saved by my brother Forget Gosho who intervened and by then I had already sustained serious injuries that have so far cost me over $900 in medical bills.”

PHD Ministries spokesperson Oscar Pambuka confirmed the incident in an interview with NewsDay, saying three men were being interviewed over the matter.

“It is true we received that report and the matter is being handled by one Assistant Inspector Chikaka of Marondera Police Station.

“We are this morning (yesterday) taking three men, who are all called by the same name Nigel, to police for questioning since the victim told the police that when he was attacked one of his assailants was being called by that name,” Pambuka said.

“We do not condone such kind of behaviour, our prophet is not His Excellency and so we cannot have a situation where people are ordered to stop in order to allow him to pass.

“The prophet is simply a man of God. These men were just overexcited, in fact, they were not the prophet’s security men, but they were just ordinary church members who were trying to assist to maintain order at the church.”
