George Charamba, Mugabe’s spokesperson, told the Daily News yesterday that his boss had landed back in the country and was ready for his bash.

“Yes he is back, and all is set for the celebrations tomorrow,” he said.

Mugabe, who is Africa’s oldest leader, was recently bestowed with esteemed seats in the regional Southern Africa Development Community (Sadc) and the continental African Union (AU) bodies.

Mugabe has ruled Zimbabwe for the past 34 years, featuring among the longest serving leaders in African history.

The celebrations today, come a few weeks before his first born Bona weds her pilot husband Simba Chikore early next month.

At 90, Mugabe, though old, has managed to squash all succession debate within his party, shaming those labelled as faction leaders.

Mugabe sarcastically bragged that he had died several times according to rumours but managed to resurrect and remain fit, as he has been linked with various ailments including prostate cancer. Daily News
