MDC-T holds alternative cabinet meeting

HARARE – MDC-T president Morgan Tsvangirai on Thursday chaired the first ‘alternative’ cabinet meeting of 2014 which took place against the background of the declining economic situation in the country.

National Organising Secretary Nelson Chamisa who is the ‘Alternative Cabinet’ spokesman spoke to Nehanda Radio and told us what they discussed.

Chamisa said the “Alternative Cabinet” was concerned about the “liquidity crunch, job losses and retrenchment, closing down of companies, the national budget that does not solve the country’s problems and the over one million students who failed to go to school this week because BEAM has no money.”

The Basic Education Assistance Module (BEAM) is a well-established mechanism that supports orphans and vulnerable children in Zimbabwe by paying for core education costs (including levies and school and examination fees) which they cannot afford but which must be paid if they are to attend school.
