KADOMA – A 32-year-old man fatally shot himself with a 303 rifle last Friday following an undisclosed dispute with his wife in Kadoma. A witness sent Nehanda Radio this graphic picture from the scene and viewer/reader discretion is strongly advised.
Mashonaland West provincial police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara confirmed the incident saying investigations were in progress. He identified the now deceased as Desmond Mbambo. We understand he was a gold dealer in the town.
It is alleged that Mbambo visited his girlfriend last Thursday morning and told her that he would commit suicide because he was having marital problems with his wife identified as Nkazana Makeyi (31). After that, Mbambo proceeded to his matrimonial home where he had a misunderstanding with his wife.
It is reported that Mbambo went to his car and grabbed his 303 rifle before threatening to shoot Makeyi. At around 9pm, he got into his car and left home without informing Makeyi where he was going.
On January 3 at around 3am Mbambo’s aunt Linda Chikumbo (31) of Ingezi received a phone call from an unknown caller informing her that Mbambo had been found dead in his car along Cherry Bank Road in Ingezi.
The matter was reported at Kadoma Central police who attended the scene and discovered a gunshot wound on Mbambo’s head. His body was taken to Kadoma General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.
Insp Mabgweazara expressed concern with the increasing number of deaths as a result of domestic disputes. He appealed to members of the public to engage a third party or seek counseling from village elders or the police to get better advice of solving their disputes amicably.
