Man (63) “jumped to his death” from 8th floor of Crowne Plaza Hotel

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed that a 63-year-old man “jumped to his death” from the 8th floor of the Crowne Plaza Hotel in central Harare today.

According to the national police spokesman Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi the incident happened at 8.30am on Thursday.

The police statement said “more details will be revealed in due course”.

Several witnesses who spoke to Nehanda Radio said the man, who is Caucasian (white) died instantly on impact with the ground.

Dozens of people gathered at the scene as police removed the body after getting confirmation from paramedics that he was dead.

“I heard a loud thud and was shocked to find out that it was a man who had fallen from a hotel room.

“I initially thought it was an electrical explosion,” said a vendor who spoke to a State media newspaper and plies his trade near the hotel.
