Bulawayo bound Pathfinder coach in crash, several feared dead, many injured

A luxury Pathfinder coach travelling from Harare heading to Bulawayo has been involved in a horrifying head on collision with a haulage truck heading in the opposite direction.

The accident happened in Lochard about 60 km from Bulawayo and has claimed the lives of a number of people and many are seriously injured. As l write this post the fire brigade is still trying to cut the bus so as to remove injured and trapped passengers.

The whole front of the pathfinder bus is mingled with the head of a haulage truck and eye witnesses on the spot are saying the number of casualties may increase with the extent of injuries seen on most of the passengers! Eight ambulances are on the scene waiting to ferry the injured to Bulawayo hospitals!

There is a queue of cars up to 20 kms from both sides as police details on the scene have blocked the highway to allow the accident investigators to do their job! Yours truly is failing to get to the scene because there is no way through! Lets pray for our injured brothers and sisters!

Meanwhile Nehanda Radio understands the root cause of the accident was the bus hitting a cow and then veering onto the path of an oncoming truck. Questions will be raised about the fencing that is meant to stop livestock from getting onto the main road.
