The first half of next year is likely to be an interesting showdown between Alick Macheso and his former band members.

Extra Kwazvose, which is fronted by ex-Macheso band members that are popularly known as “The Rebels”, has announced it would release a new album in the same month with the former paymaster.
At a show at Jongwe Corner in Harare last week, Macheso said he would release his album in March next year as an Easter present for his fans.
It has emerged “The Rebels” are also eyeing the same month for the release of their second album. Sources say “The Rebels” got confidence from the dominance they are currently enjoying over Macheso with their debut album “Ndizvo Zviripo”.
Macheso’s album “Kwatakabva Mitunhu (Kure Kwekure)” has failed to meet the standards set by his previous releases.
According to sources, “The Rebels” want to directly challenge their former leader in his territory, but the band always refutes allegations that they want to compete against Macheso.
Extra Kwazvose manager John Murira said it was a coincidence they were going to elease the album in the same month with Macheso.
“We were told that he (Macheso) recently announced he would release his album in March, but we are not in competition with anyone. We already had plans to release it that time,” said Murira.
He added that they don’t feel intimidated by any musician because they are concentrating on pleasing their fans.
“We do not fear anyone because we want to concentrate on building our fan base and we are confident our next album will take us to another level.”
However, Macheso’s manager, William Tsandukwa, said he was unaware of the month their album would be released.
“I don’t know the day of release, but what I know is that our album will be ready early next year, the month and day is up to him (Macheso),” said Tsandukwa. He said they did not intend to compete with Extra Kwazvose.
“We are not in competition, but we just have to give our fans new stuff,” said Tsandukwa.
The two clashed last month after they booked show venues less than five kilometres apart in Mutare.
“The Rebels” are said to be garnering support at social gatherings in Chitungwiza, which is Macheso’s stronghold.
Meanwhile, Macheso is expected to continue safeguarding his territory with a show at the Chitungwiza Aquatic Complex tonight. He will share the stage with three other musicians – Oliver Mtukudzi, Jah Prayzah and Douglas Chimbetu. The Herald
