Titus Kahungwa and his daughters Lucia (21) and Natasha (17) died while travelling from Hydock Farm in Banket towards Chegutu last Friday when a bus that was coming from Chegutu encroached into their lane resulting in a head-on collision.

Mashonaland West police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara confirmed the incident adding that the injured were taken to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital where their condition was reportedly stable.

“Three people died and three others were injured when the vehicle they were travelling in was involved in an accident at the 86km peg along the Chinhoyi-Chegutu Road,” he said.

The accident occurred when a bus that was travelling from Chegutu encroached into the lane of the oncoming Mazda MPV that Titus was driving with six people on board resulting in a head-on collision.

The driver of the bus was trying to avoid hitting a stationary vehicle that was parked in the road. The injured are admitted to Chinhoyi provincial hospital where their condition was reportedly stable. The bodies of the deceased are at the same hospital awaiting postmortem.

Inspector Mabgweazara urged motorists to take the necessary precautions to avoid accidents.

“We implore road users to take necessary precautionary steps to ensure that accidents are avoided. In this instance the stationary vehicle could have been pushed out of the road and the right signs put in place for the sake of other road users,” he said.
