HARARE – World football governing body FIFA have today announced that they have suspended Dynamos and Zimbabwe Warriors midfielder Devon Chafa for 6 months after he allegedly tested positive for a prohibited substance.

As previously reported by Nehanda Radio, Chafa tested positive for a prohibited substance following a routine FIFA doping exercise during the 2014 World Cup football qualifier between Zimbabwe and Egypt played in Harare on the 9th of June 2013.
Chafa claims the substance is linked to the medication he is taking.
The FIFA Disciplinary Committee met on the 10th of October and decided to sanction the Zimbabwean who had been provisionally suspended in August for an anti-doping rule violation after testing positive for prednisone – a substance included on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) 2013 Prohibited List.
“The suspension period starts from 30 August 2013, the date from which the player was provisionally suspended by the chairman of the Disciplinary Committee. The suspension covers all types of matches, including domestic, international, friendly and official fixtures,” Fifa said in a statement.
