The smaller MDC faction led by Welshman Ncube suffered a body blow on Monday after its Director of Policy and Research Co-ordination, Qhubani Moyo, tendered his resignation.

Moyo, the losing parliamentary candidate for Insiza North constituency said “I have resigned from MDC to focus on other issues l feel l am good at for the betterment of serving my region.
“I want to write books and research on the behaviour of voting patterns. I want to move on a full time academic space and contribute positively for the benefit of my nation,” said Moyo
“I have taken a political sabbatical to concentrate on other avenues of contributing to the development of Zimbabwe. I will spend most of my time doing academic research trying to understand the voting preferences of the people of Matabeleland and what influences them,” he said.
In a statement the MDC thanked “Moyo for the committed and sterling contribution to the party’s national agenda in the various capacities and roles in which he was deployed. It is indeed sad to see our esteemed comrade disembark from the devolution train, the party will sincerely miss his contribution.”
The statement did not say where Moyo was going simply saying we “wish him well in his chosen path and future endeavours.”
Nehanda Radio however understands new Information Minister Jonathan Moyo has approached Qhubani about a possible role in his Ministry.
MDC Treasurer, Paul Themba Nyathi appeared to confirm this when he told the independent Radio VOP that “It’s true that Moyo has resigned to look for a full time job in government.”
Qhubani has meanwhile denied the speculation telling close friends he just wants to take a back seat on the political front. Moyo is a part-time lecturer at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST).
However, some MDC supporters who spoke to Radio VOP about Moyo’s resignation expressed shock and described him as a sell-out and coward politician who is a political prostitute.
“We are highly informed that Moyo has left the party to work with Professor Jonathan Moyo. He is also close to Professor Moyo because the Information, Media and Broadcasting Services Minister was his lecturer at the University of Zimbabwe,” said Leonard Nhliziyo.
Moyo lost in the July elections where he contested for a parliamentary seat in Insiza North on an MDC party ticket.
“Moyo is a coward and a political prostitute, why resign? If he had won the elections was he going to resign, he has shown that he is not a good politician, and it is good riddance,” said Nhliziyo.
Moyo is also the founder of Radio Dialogue in Bulawayo and many other institutions. He also contributed immensely in the writing of MDC 2013 manifesto and other party policy documents. Additional reporting by Radio VOP
