MDC-T Bulawayo provincial chairperson, Gorden Moyo says God will intervene and the country may not have to wait until 2018 elections before party leader, Morgan Tsvangirai leads the nation. He however, did not say how that would happen.
Speaking at a dinner organised by him and his wife at their home in Bulawayo’s Famona suburb on Friday, Moyo said his party was at its greatest strength and would recover from the “stolen” elections.
The Makokoba MP said he was proud to be chairman of Bulawayo, the only province in the country where MDC-T won all the seats in the National Assembly and council in the July 31 elections.
“Everyone concerned about democracy knows that the people of Bulawayo were determined to fight dictatorship,” he said. “There is an island of hope, peace and prophecy for democracy. I am a proud chairperson today because the world knows that in Zimbabwe there is an island that has remained an MDC-T territory.”
He added: “Let us work together with others from other areas who need our guidance and strength. I suspect we won’t have to wait until 2018, because God will meet us midway and we will be going door to door preparing to install our leader as president.”
The former Minister of State Enterprises and Parastatals however could not shed light on how God would intervene to remove President Robert Mugabe, who was recently inaugurated as President after winning the July 31 election.
Mugabe, who will turn 90 next February, has indicated that he would serve his whole five-year presidential tenure despite his ill health and age. Moyo said he had indicated before the elections that by August 1, Zimbabwe would have a new president but the polls were manipulated by Zanu PF.
“As we know, there are thieves, those who steal maize, those who steal diamonds and those who steal elections,” he said. “What I want to tell you however is that the dream for a prosperous Zimbabwe has not been destroyed but deferred.”
Speaking at the same function, MDC-T deputy president Thokozani Khupe commended Bulawayo residents for rallying behind the party.
“You did a wonderful job in Bulawayo, we got 100% of the seats in council and the National Assembly,” she said.
“It is not only because of us but the grace of the Lord,” she said.
“We took this country out of a dustbin when we signed the Global Political Agreement, now that Zanu PF has stolen an election, we will see how they will perform after dragging the country to its knees.” Zimbabwe Standard
