There was drama when a football match pitting ZRP Harare Province and Herentals Queens Football Club turned into a wrestling match. The football pitch was turned into a ring as players teamed against each other exchanging blows at Morgan High school on Saturday.
The football support staff and supporters also joined in the melee. ZRP Harare Province took the lead through Moleen Karengesha’s goal in the first half before Herentals Queens pulled back in the second half through one Wadzanai Makura.
Crude tackles dominated the match and ZRP Province captain Grace Moyo was red carded together with Wadzanai following the scuffle that delayed the match for almost 10 minutes. Wadzanai slapped Moyo leading to the fight. Wadzanai’s teammates joined in assaulting Moyo leading to the melee.
ZRP Harare Province coach Terence Kambuwa said that his team was going to file a report following the incident.
“We are going to file a report for the behaviour shown by Herentals Queens officials in accordance with ZIFA rules and regulations,” said Kambuwa.
What disturbed us much was the invasion of the pitch by Herentals Queens supporters and officials in assaulting our players,” he added.
Herentals Queens officials refused to comment.
The match ended 1-1 after 90 minutes.
