A Harare woman was yesterday brought to the Harare Civil Court by her estranged husband for smashing his iPad and smartphone and insulting his mother on Facebook at the height of a domestic dispute.
Mark Huni of Mufakose filed for a protection order against his wife Kesty Musindo, whom he said was “suicidal”. He told the court that he moved out of the couple’s matrimonial home because of domestic violence.
“What irks me is that after the altercation over smashing my phones, she went on to insult my mother on Facebook,” said Huni.
“To make matter worse, she changed her WhatsApp picture and put that of her boyfriend, yet I am sending her to school.”
The court heard that when Huni went to the house intending to take his clothes, Musindo threw urine contained in a bucket at him. She later sent him a message on his phone, saying he would not be able to have sex with anyone because she had cursed him.
Responding to the allegations, Musindo denied that they were on separation.
“He is my husband, we only have problems but that is how marriages are,” she said.
“It is true that I smashed his phones after I found naked pictures of his girlfriend in those phones and I failed to control my anger.”
Musindo told the court that she was arrested for the offence and made to pay a fine of US$350.
“My husband is now being influenced by his parents to divorce me,” she said. “He moved out leaving me and our three-year-old son with no food. I am now four months pregnant.”
Magistrate Ms Olivia Mariga granted the protection order in Huni’s favour.
