Zimbabwe beat Zambia to qualify for CHAN finals
Zimbabwe upset hosts Zambia 1-0 in the second leg of their African Nations Championship (CHAN) tie on Saturday.
The 1-0 aggregate win means Zimbabwe have qualified from the Southern Zone for the CHAN finals to be held in South Africa next year.
Charles Sibanda scored the only goal of the tie after 65 minutes to shock Zambia, who had been tipped to win the game and reach the finals of the tournament for locally-based players only.
Mozambique host Angola in Maputo on Sunday in the first leg of a tie that will decide who joins Zimbabwe and hosts South Africa from the Southern Zone.
Also on Sunday Cameroon tackle 2009 champions the DR Congo in Garoua in another first leg tie, the winners will also qualify for next year’s tournament in South Africa.
Burkina Faso, Burundi, Congo Brazzaville, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Libya, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Nigeria, Uganda have all progressed through regional qualifiers to reach the finals.
The tournament will be held between 11 January and 1 February in 2010 World Cup venues Bloemfontein, Polokwane and Cape Town, where the opening game and final will be staged.
