Mystery surrounds the death of a Zanu PF supporter who was abducted on the eve of party primary elections and his body found days later dumped in the Gwedi River in Nyabira, along the Chinhoyi Road near the Inkomo military barracks.

Nehanda Radio spoke to the family of Nobert Chirunga and they confirmed that on Monday 24 June he had travelled to take part in Zanu PF primary elections (set for Tuesday) in Zvimba East that involved President Robert Mugabe’s nephew Patrick Zhuwao against Francis Mukwangwariwa.

Chirunga’s family believe he was abducted either during that journey to the vote or after.

“During the body viewing his whole body was swollen including the head. It was also clear he was bleeding from the nose before he died,” a concerned member of the family told Nehanda Radio.

“When we buried him on Wednesday last week, his body could not even fit in the coffin because it was so swollen. We are puzzled as to why someone would do this to him. He was a very quiet person,” the family member said.
