HARARE – Tryson Chimbetu has postponed the release of his latest album “Campus” to allow his record company Diamond Studios to produce enough copies for distribution.

The album was supposed to be released on March 22 to coincide with the Dr Nero Commemorations held on Friday. Tryson’s manager, Nyasha Mugari, said they had pushed the release date back.

“The album was due for release on March 22, but we failed because the recording company told us that they had no capacity to produce enough CDs for sale. The album is no longer in our hands. We are just waiting to hear from the recording company,” he said.

Efforts to get a comment from Diamond Studios were fruitless as their phones went unanswered. This is not the first time Tryson has shown his disappointment in recording stables.

In 2011, the dendera prodigy dumped Zimbabwe Music Corporation accusing the stable of failing to market his two albums “Marxist Revival” and “Bvamrod”.

“Bvamrod” took long to be released after a feud between the stable and the musician over contractual issues. He then moved to Diamond Studios where he recorded his third album “Nguva YaChimbetu” in 2011. “Campus” becomes his fourth album since he burst onto the music scene in 2007.

While Tryson has proved his mettle vocally, in terms of album popularity, he still has much to do as he is not getting much airplay. Tryson said he has graduated after spending two years under the tutelage of Sungura maestro Alick Macheso.

“I have been working round the clock to present a good sound. I understand the standards that have set are high and I am using that as a yardstick. Also the exposure and experience that we gained from Macheso has been very helpful,” he said.

Born on October 12, 1987, Tryson has vowed to continue his father’s legacy.

“I wish I could put someone in my shoes for a single day and they experience the pressure that I go through everyday to unite my family. The guys, particularly Sulu (Sulumani), Tryson and Douglas, are a difficult lot that need special tact when dealing with them,” claimed the only surviving Dendera “godfather”, Allan Chimbetu, last week.
