HARARE – Police in Harare last week intercepted an Isuzu truck in Tafara that was carrying 2 000kg of mbanje worth thousands of dollars.
The truck driver, Bhauti Rusiyano (45) was arrested and detained at Tafara police station while his three accomplices ran away. The processed marijuana-believed to have been loaded in Mutoko and destined for Epworth- was taken to the Grain Marketing Board.
The Isuzu truck, registration ACH 4393, belongs to one Chido Zindoga. Acting provincial police spokesperson assistant inspector Tarirai Dube confirmed the arrest.
“An Epworth man was arrested around 6am in Tafara by members of the police neighbourhood committee patrolling in Caledonia Farm after he was found with packages of mbanje,” said Dube.
“Three of the four people who were in the truck are still at large and the driver is leading police with investigations. He is being charged of being found in possession of dangerous drugs,” added Dube.
Rusiyano said that he drove towards the cops after discovering that it was Marijuana and one Samukukutu of Epworth fled along with two others after spotting police details.
“I didn’t know that it was marijuana after the guys lied to me that it was tobacco and they were to pay me after delivery. I delayed on the way and I advised them that I wanted to pass through Tafara claiming I had to go for a puncture repair before I alerted police about the mbanje,” said Rusiyano.
About 21 bags weighing 90kg and 5 x 50kgs were loaded in the Isuzu truck.
