Man kidnaps son to fix ex-wife

A Chitungwiza man was found guilty of kidnapping his estranged wife’s eight year old son in an attempt to ‘fix’ her for divorcing him.

court-newsThe man, Anthony Mathias kidnapped the school boy who was in uniform and handed him to a street kid for more than two nights. Mathias was hauled before Mbare magistrate Precious Muzondo charged with kidnapping.

He came clean and pleaded guilty before he was remanded in custody to March 3 for his sentence. State counsel Lawrence Gangarahwe condemned Anthony’s conduct and pleaded with the court to give him a custodial sentence.

He told the court that he wanted to punish his former wife because she had divorced him and the child belonged to the wife.

On February 19, Anthony from Unit M in Seke, Chitungwiza, kidnapped the little boy who was on his way to school. The unsuspecting boy stopped to buy some snacks at a local tuck-shop when he was lifted by Anthony who carried him on his shoulders.

The State proved that he then went with him to town despite calls by the boy that he wanted to go to school. It was proved that Anthony later took the boy to one, Chrispen Zuze who is a street kid in the capital city.

He left the innocent boy to stay with him where he spent two nights in the streets with Zuze putting up in a make-up shelter. Each time the boy would demand to be released Zuze would threaten to beat him up.

During the boy’s stay he with Zuze, Anthony only managed to buy him three packets of biscuits and he was starved. Anthony phoned his ex-wife threatening her that he would kill the boy in an attempt to ‘fix’ her since they had separated.

He was arrested after some investigations leading to his appearance in court.
