Former Zimbabwe national team captain Norman Mapeza is the new national team coach following his appointment by the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA). Mapeza will be on a running contract up to the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations finals.
Speaking to BBC Sport Mapeza said “It’s my wish to get the campaign back on track, I believe that we can still qualify.” His appointment ends a long spell of instability following the departure of Sunday Chidzambwa last May.
Unsurprisingly there was no place in the new set-up for Black Mambas coach Madinda Ndlovu, who was in charge on a caretaker basis before the latest announcements. Relations between the two are said to be frosty.
