‘Busy’ Winky D Snubs Capleton Zimbabwe Gig

By Esther Gomo

Local dancehall sensation Winky D has snubbed the much hyped Capleton Live in Zimbabwe gig slated for December 31 and January 1 at Glamis Arena and Chitungwiza Aquatic Complex respectively.

It’s the second time the popular ‘Musarova Bigman’ star has snubbed Jamaican artists who have come into the country to perform. Last time he was accused of not showing up at the TOK gig. Sources however told Nehanda Radio on both occasions ‘Bigman’ was not impressed by the ‘peanuts’ offered for his services.

His manager Jonathan Shumba Banda said they had pulled out of the Capleton gig because of failure to reach common ground on ‘specific issues’. Banda refused to divulge the issues saying it was a two-party agreement. He said that on December 31, Winky D will be playing at Chequers Nightclub in Kadoma.

So why did Winky D not show up at the TOK gig. “We are professionals and we could not double book. We had been booked in Shamva and we could not let down our Shamva fans just because there was an international group performing,” Banda said.

“Of course it’s was a good platform for us but our Shamva fans have been with us all the time,” said Banda. The promoters of the Capleton gig confirmed that Winky D had given them a letter stating his position to withdraw. The promoter of the show Barbara “Mama Red Rose” Chikosi claimed ‘Bigman’ had a standing contract that he had signed.

“Winky D signed a contract with us and I can even show you the documents, but he indicated to us that he is busy and can’t fulfil his obligation to perform. As of now I am also busy and I will deal with that matter later because I can’t force him to perform,” said Chikosi.
