Blackburn 0…………………..Sunderland 0

Former Zimbabwe international captain and Blackburn Rovers striker Benjani Mwaruwari made a promising appearance against former club Sunderland in an exciting match at Ewood Park on Monday evening.

The big centre forward replaced the misfiring Nicola Kalinic and made an immediate impact. Benjani, who spent a loan spell on Wearside last season, provided much-needed muscle for Rovers.

He was unfortunate to see his shot sail just over the crossbar in the 70th minute after crafting out some space for himself in a congested penalty area. With Blackburn down to 10 men after the sending off of Christopher Samba, mananger Sam Allardyce brought on Benjani

Sunderland defenders failed to deal with the Zimbabwean’s aggressive play and it was only a nasty cut to head that saw Blackburn being forced to take off their effective substitute.
