Zimbabwe’s minister of mines, Obert Mpofu, told the Sunday Mail, that he received preliminary results of the existence of diamond mines in areas such as Binga, Masvingo and Tsholotsho.
He announced that the government was launching a new company made up of mining engineers and geologists called the Zimbabwe Minerals Explorations Corporation (ZMEC) that will assist the country in accounting all of its mineral wealth.
“This is in view of the new minerals around the country whose extent and commercial viability have not been established,” said Mpofu.
“As government, we have very little knowledge of the country’s mineral wealth as the exploration has generally remained the domain of large mining companies due to large sums of money required to explore and the high risk.”
Mpofu also told the Sunday Mail that he hopes the ZMEC will help the country get as much as they can out of its natural resources and attract investors. Diamonds.net
