Zimbabwe Independent deputy editor dies in crash

Former Trends magazine Editor Edwin Dube has died. He was 37.

Dube who was now working for the Zimbabwe Independent as Deputy Editor died on Monday night when the vehicle he was driving was involved in an accident with a haulage truck on the 260km peg along the Harare-Bulawayo highway.

Dube was travelling to work in Harare from his home in Bulawayo. Police national traffic spokesperson Inspector Tigere Chigome said the incident occurred around 9:30 pm.

“A haulage truck with number plates ABN 0033 was driving towards Gweru while an Isuzu double cab number plate AMM 1920 was driving towards Kwekwe. On approaching the 260km peg, the vehicles side-swiped each other after the haulage truck encroached into the lane of the Isuzu truck,” Insp Chigome said.

“The Isuzu truck veered off the road and hit a tree. The driver and one passenger died on the spot while three other passengers sustained serious injuries.” Insp Chigome said the bodies were taken to Gweru General Hospital mortuary while the wounded passengers were treated at the same hospital.
