Three English clubs chase Benjani signature

Must Try

Trending

Three English premiership clubs are chasing the signature of Zimbabwean striker Benjani Mwaruwari. The UK Daily Mirror reports that Blackburn Rovers, West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers are battling each other for the signature of the ex-Manchester City forward.

Benjani joined City in 2008, but a spate of injuries impeded his progress and he was shipped off on loan to Sunderland. However, the temporary switch to Wearside proved to be underwhelming, as the forward failed to score a single goal in the Premier League during his time at the Stadium of Light.

It was always felt Sunderland manager Steve Bruce did not give the Zimbabwean captain enough game time to prove himself or get any goal. He made a few cameo appearances mostly in the dying minutes of certain games. It was clear Sunderland brought him in as cover for the strike pairing of Darren Bent and Kenwyne Jones.

On his return to City, the 31-year-old Benjani was released as a free agent, and he is now free to talk to any club he chooses. Now The Mirror reports that Blackburn, West Ham and Wolves are competing with each other for the striker’s signature. All three clubs are in the hunt for a forward to bolster their respective attacks.
