Steve Makoni makes comeback

REMEMBER the artiste who made waves with the hit song Sabhuku Nedhongi, among others?

Well, solo guitarist and lyricist, Steve Makoni is back after a long sabbatical from the mainstream music scene.

The gifted musician-cum-comedian, who had gone quiet in recent years, was one of the few local solo musicians together with the late George Pada who were inspired to churn out comical songs, that are not only didactical, but entertaining as well.

Makoni became a household name with his rib-cracking songs before going off the radar while another solo guitarist Kireni Zulu took over.

Makoni, however, recently sprung a surprise appearance at Max Village in Rusape where he took revellers down memory lane with his catalogue of enthralling songs.

And in the true spirit of promoting yesteryear musicians, Makoni’s show also featured Somandla Ndebele and Tedius Matsito who had been inactive for a long time.

Makoni’s performance marked the official opening of the joint.

“We decided to open our place with his performance because we believe that he can still make it musically.

“It is part of our mission to promote both established and upcoming musicians whom we hire to entertain the people of Rusape,” said Hastings Mutengezanwa, the entertainment manager at the joint.

Makoni also played new songs from his yet-to-be-released album.
